Terms of Service
Last updated: 31 July 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the POIscore API and website (the "Service"). By creating an account, generating an API key, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.
1. The Service
POIscore provides a customizable points-of-interest scoring API built on open data (OpenStreetMap, Wikidata, and Wikipedia pageviews). We may add, change, or remove features, endpoints, and data at any time. We aim for backward compatibility on the versioned /v1 surface but do not guarantee it for undocumented behaviour.
2. Accounts and API keys
You are responsible for keeping your credentials and API keys secret and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. You must provide accurate registration details and keep them current. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.
3. Plans, billing, and refunds
Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through our payment processor, Stripe. Prices are shown exclusive of any applicable taxes, which are added at checkout where required. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; you may cancel at any time from the billing portal, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable and we do not provide prorated refunds for partial periods. Plan changes are prorated automatically. We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice, effective on your next renewal.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- exceed your plan's rate limits or attempt to circumvent quotas, throttling, or authentication;
- resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service as a substantially similar standalone product;
- use the Service to build a competing points-of-interest scoring API;
- probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service without our prior written consent;
- use the Service unlawfully, or to store or transmit malicious code.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section, with or without notice depending on severity.
5. Data, attribution, and open-data licences
POIscore responses are derived from open data. OpenStreetMap data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL); Wikidata and Wikipedia content is available under their respective licences. You are responsible for complying with those upstream licences, including any attribution requirements, when you display or redistribute data obtained through the Service. You may cache and store API responses as needed to operate your application.
6. Availability and support
The Service is provided on a commercially reasonable-efforts basis. Unless a separate written service-level agreement is in place, we do not guarantee any specific uptime, and we may perform maintenance that temporarily interrupts the Service. Support is provided by email at the level indicated by your plan.
7. Warranties and liability
The Service and its data are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy or completeness of the data. Rankings and scores are heuristic and must not be relied on as the sole basis for safety-critical or high-stakes decisions. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
8. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your access for breach of these Terms, non-payment, or where required by law. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; sections that by their nature should survive (including licences, disclaimers, and liability limits) continue to apply.
9. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
10. Governing law and contact
These Terms are governed by the laws of the European Union member state in which the operating entity is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Questions about these Terms can be sent through our contact page. See also our Privacy Policy and Data Retention Policy.
